Gifts by will and other types of planned giving
A planned gift allows you to act now to meet tomorrow's needs for palliative home care. We know that the needs of patients in the advanced stages of incurable diseases are growing year after year.
Whether it is a gift by will, a gift through life insurance, or another type of gift, planning allows you to maximize the impact of your donation so that we can improve specialized care, always with the utmost compassion and dignity, and continue to advance knowledge in home palliative care.

A donation by will to the SSPAD Foundation helps ensure the future of palliative care and high-quality, free services provided by the Greater Montreal Home Palliative Care Society to anyone who wishes to live at home during the final stage of their life.
It is the most beautiful legacy there is, imbued with compassion, allowing you to pass on your values to your loved ones and honor the dignity of life until the very end.
Why choose to donate through your will?
Bequests are the most popular form of planned giving. They are simple and can be changed at any time during your lifetime should your family situation change.
It is accessible to everyone, as it does not require leaving a fortune or disadvantaging your heirs. Including a donation to the Foundation in your will, regardless of the amount, makes a difference to the sustainability of our mission.
Tax benefits
Did you know that a donation made in your will can reduce or even eliminate the taxes payable by your estate? The SSPAD Foundation will issue a donation receipt for the value of the assets received, and your estate will benefit from tax credits. These credits can be applied to the year preceding the death and even carried forward to the following five years, up to 100% of your net income for the year of death and the previous year.
Several ways to donate through your will
There are different forms of testamentary gifts:
– A sum of money or a specific asset (RRSP, RRIF, real estate, publicly traded securities, artwork);
– A percentage or all of the residual value of your assets after payment of debts and specific bequests;
– All or part of your assets.
Making a donation to the SSPAD Foundation in your will is a wonderful way to help make high-quality palliative care and services more accessible at home.
Did you know that you can make a life insurance donation to the SSPAD Foundation and even enjoy greater tax benefits during your lifetime?
In addition, donating through life insurance allows you to multiply your contribution at a lower cost without touching your assets. It is an important lever for helping to maintain and improve palliative care and our home care services.
There are several ways to make a donation through life insurance, each with its own advantages:
– By naming the SSPAD Foundation as beneficial owner of your existing policy or a new policy:
Simply designate FSSPAD as the beneficiary of your insured capital directly in the contract of an existing policy or by mentioning it in your will.
Benefits:
Your estate will receive a donation receipt for the value of the death benefit paid to the FSSPAD, which will reduce the taxes payable upon your death.
– By transferring ownership of your current policy—whether paid up or unpaid—so that FSSPAD becomes the owner and beneficiary:
Using a form provided by your insurance company, simply transfer an existing policy or take out a new policy so that FSSPAD is the owner and beneficiary.
Benefits:
You will receive a donation receipt for the cash surrender value or fair market value of your policy (determined by an independent actuary based on your life expectancy).
For policies that are not surrendered and for which you continue to pay annual premiums, you will also receive a donation receipt for the amount of the premium each year.
The Foundation is preparing to accept donations of publicly traded securities.
More to come!

It’s a way to ensure that your values and beliefs will continue to inspire, support, and build a better future. Together, let’s turn your plans for today into a legacy of dignity and hope for generations to come.
